Mid- and Long Term Voluntary Service (MTV and LTV)
Based on the same philosophy and global organisation as Short Term Voluntary Service (Workcamps), they answer to the needs of projects needing a longer term attention and development.
During 1 to 3 months for MTV and 3 to 12 (or more) months for LTV, they permit to individual or small teams (2 to 4) of volunteers and grant them access to a better social, cultural and linguistic immersion in the project, the host organisation or community than a workcamp. Missions like teaching to a disadvantaged population, office assistance, social support to a community, workcamp coordination or research and documentation can be examples of M-LTV projects. They can also serve as internships or stage during a volunteer’s studies, as the training and practice are more developed than in a short term project.
From the side of the project, it give the hosting organisation or community an available resource person (or small group) to care about general to very specialised topics and activities with extremely reduced (if ever any) costs.
We tend to recommend this kind of involvement to volunteers interested in a deeper cultural immersion in the country. We also propose to communities or local NGOs having projects needing a more important presence and follow-up from the volunteers (like education enforcement, assistance to social development, researches) to consider more this kind of project than workcamps.
Having a longer development in time, MLTVs can have an even deeper impact on ones development, evolution and education. The contact between the volunteer and the community often being proportionally intense and authentic to the duration of the project, they are unique and unforgettable experiences for both sides.
Nataté organises mid and long term voluntary service projects in Mexico and send volunteers abroad. If you are interested as individual (to go abroad and join a project) or organisation (to host international volunteers), just contact us!
